With 20 years of full-time professional editorial experience in the educational publishing industry and over 5 years of freelance writing, editing and proofreading, I can help clients improve their writing to connect better with their intended audience.
My editorial services offer flexibility and comprehensiveness, as I will edit according to the client’s writing genre and allow up to 3 rounds of changes, so they can have peace of mind in knowing their writing will be thoroughly checked.
I offer writing, editing, proofreading, photography and videography services on a project basis. My clients include first-time authors, academics, professionals and companies from various industries, and my portfolio includes fiction novels and non-fiction books/articles (autobiography, education, shipping, food and beverages, etc).
My professional background
After graduating from National University of Singapore with majors in English Language and Geography, I had worked as a full-time editor in educational publishing for about 20 years from 1997 to 2018. I am currently working as a self-employed writer, editor, photographer, videographer and digital music artist.
The companies I have worked for include Hodder Education (formerly known as Longman Singapore Publishers), SNP Pan Pacific Publishing, Oxford University Press and Marshall Cavendish Education.
The projects that I have overseen from conceptualisation to publication stages include Primary and Secondary English educational books, Primary Art and Crafts textbooks, Geography textbook packages, Information and Communications Technology textbooks, Humanities magazines, Social Studies guidebooks, and so on.
I am the author of my debut poetry book Nature Sketch. I am also an editorial trainer and the founder of Write Better English (with Jimmy Tan).
My proposed standard rates
- Transcribing: US$2 per minute of audio
- Proofreading: US$3 per page
- Copy editing: US$15 per page
- Developmental editing: US$25 per page
- Developmental editing and rewriting: US$30 per page
- Writing: US$25-50 per page (depending on complexity and timeline)
- Copywriting: depends on the nature of work
- Photography: US$60-80 per hour (including photo editing, depending on number of photos and timeline)
- Videography: US$80-120 per hour (including video editing, depending on complexity and timeline)
(“Per page” is based on the industry standard of 250 words per A4-size page.)
My editorial job scope usually includes up to 3 rounds of editing and/or proofreading (with a style sheet for reference).
It would be good if I could have a look at the raw manuscripts and gauge the extent of editing needed.
This will help me estimate how much time it may require for editing too.

P.S. Broadly speaking, developmental editing involves content editing, language (linguistics) editing and copy editing, with light amount of rewriting/rephrasing/reorganisation of paragraphs. Copy editing involves mainly checking style, spelling, punctuation, with minor language corrections. Proofreading involves mainly checking for typos, pagination errors and inconsistencies in style and page formatting.
