Devotional: Resting in your highest self gives you strength, grace and guidance

There’s a time for everything.

I believe there is a time for waiting, even if it might seem like procrastination on the surface.

After all, there is a time to wait and a time to take action.

No doubt there are times we feel that any action is better than inaction.

We would console ourselves that we can always learn from mistakes or failures if it doesn’t work out the way we want.

After all, Proverbs 14:23 says “there is profit in all labour, but idle chatter only leads to poverty”.

But I would see that as a kind of consolation in the old testament.

It is because under law, people had to be constantly working in order to get results.

Today, we are all under grace, where we only need to rest in the Lord and follow the prompting of the Spirit from within.

It is said that rest is not inactivity but rather Holy Spirit-directed activity.

As Proverbs 16:3 says, as we commit to the Lord whatever we do, he will establish our plans.

The key here is to involve God in our activities and trust that he will establish our thoughts.

When we make time to be still and listen to Jesus like Mary did, instead of being caught up in hustle and bustle like Martha did, we will end up taking inspired actions and producing supernatural results.

As it turned out, Mary had the opportunity to anoint Jesus’ body for his upcoming burial, whereas the other women didn’t get a chance as he would have already risen from the dead by the time they went to his tomb.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 also reminds us that it is not the strongest or fastest or wisest who will prevail.

Rather, we can trust God to put us at the right place at the right time to be blessed and be a blessing.

One time, Jesus deliberately tarried before going to the Feast of Tabernacles secretly.

He told his brothers it wasn’t the right time and chose to wait until all was clear for him to go.

Another time, Jesus waited until Lazarus died before going to wake him up.

It might seem he was late, but even so, he could cause grace to super-abound in the very area of death.

Therefore, my brethren, let’s wait on the Lord and be of good courage, and he will strengthen your heart.
